145 East 37th Street, New York, New York<Back A foreign diplomat had purchased a 135 year old house in Manhattan's historic Murry Hill section. The house had at some earlier period been converted into an 8 family house, and had been neglected. The new owner desired to use the house as a single family home. He was seeking a place that he could use for entertaining visiting foreign officials and friends. At the same time, he wanted a comfortable home for his family. He also wanted to renovate the house in a way that would preserve most of the surviving historic architectural details, while bring the house into modern times. We were also asked to renovate the house in a way that would meet his goals for comfort and recapture some of the historical charm of the house. At the same time, the owner engaged us to replace all existing major mechanical systems, install central air conditioning, replace all the existing windows, and rebuild the staircases in the house. He also had a tight budget. We were able to deliver a finished product that he could be proud of, while meeting his needs as to comfort, construction time and budget. |
