We worked with the owner of this 1861 townhouse in the Greenwich Village Historic District of Manhattan to restore the building from a multi-family dwelling back to a single family home. The owner's goal was to transform this property into a comfortable and up-to-date home. At the same time, we were asked to retain and restore many of the historical elements that gave the house its special charm.

Our work included addressing many structural problems, as well as years of neglect and abuse. We needed to replace the building's heating, electrical and plumbing systems,. We installed a new air conditioning, ventilation and communications system. We also restored the facade of the house to Landmark Commission standards, re-pointed the brickwork, re-built window lintels and sills, and replaced all the existing windows. On the interior, five new bathrooms and a new kitchen were installed, mantles and fireplaces were restored, and woodwork, walls and floors were refinished.

The end result was a harmonious blend of the new and old, in a comfortable home environment.
